H Eschweiler Buildings What are those old red brick buildings you see along Hwy45? Here's your chance to get inside and hear the history of the Milwaukee County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy, built in 1912, and commonly referred to as the Eschweiler buildings. You'll be able to see the beautiful architecture on the first floor of the Administration building, which is surrounded by the Monarch Trail, in a park-like setting. Now owned by the UWM Real Estate Foundation, efforts are underway to generate funding to adaptively reuse these buildings.

As it celebrates its 30th year in Milwaukee, Habitat for Humanity has opened a new ReStore in Wauwatosa; the ReStore exists to support Milwaukee's Habitat for Humanity mission. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how donations of furniture, cabinetry and building supplies are processed and sold to benefit deserving families in the Milwaukee area.

M TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park Location: 1800 N Swan Blvd - Back for its 2nd year on the Windows tour, Hoyt Pool was Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened in 1939 the pool was closed in 2003 due to severe structural problems. Rebuilt through local fund-raising efforts, the pool re-opened in 2011, and was named TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park. Come see the pumps and filtration system in the pool house basement.

O Little Red Store 7720 Harwood Ave – ample surface lot parking The Little Red Store is part of Wauwatosa’s earliest history as the oldest remaining post office in Milwaukee County. A highlight of the Windows Into Wauwatosa tour will include a trip to the basement to view the store’s original beams.

P Lowell Damon House 2107 N. Wauwatosa Avenue – Started in 1844 by Oliver Damon, and completed in 1847 by his son Lowell, this house is believed to be the oldest residence in Wauwatosa. A classic example of a colonial home, the Milwaukee County Historical Society has operated it as a museum for decades. Tour includes the the interior of the house and the gardens.

Q Milwaukee County Parks Building 9480 W. Watertown Plank Rd. – Back for its 2nd year on the Windows tour, don't miss this Milwaukee County historical treasure! Now home to the County Parks Administrative offices, the corridors of this building that originally housed the Home for Dependent Children, are lined with dozens of historic photos. The spirit of Charles Whitnall, original Milwaukee Parks architect, is found in a display of his desk and typewriter that welcomes you into this grand building.

R Milwaukee Irish Fest Center  Back for its 2nd year on the Windows tour, this historic building was completed in 1918 by the Wauwatosa Masonic Lodge, where, at one time, there were 900 members. Sold to Milwaukee Irish Fest in 1998, and renovated with a Celtic theme. Visitors can view the entire building, including the John J. Ward Irish Music Archives. Located at: 1532 N. Wauwatosa Ave.

S Monarch Trail - Milwaukee County Ground Discovery and Eschweiler Road - The Monarch Trail is an approximately 11.5 acre preserve set aside to protect the existing roost areas used by the monarch butterfly on its 2,500 mile journey south in the fall. In addition to these roost areas, the adjacent lands provide host plants for the monarch population and nectar plants for this incredible migration. Since 2005, construction has disrupted much of this area and monarch numbers have continued to decline.

Restoration projects within the Monarch Preserve and on development areas will help improve the odds for monarchs on the County Grounds. In the meantime, unique birds can be heard and seen, many are rare in urban areas. The meadowlarks and bluebirds are nesting, warblers, orioles, wrens, tanagers and others can be seen here too. Hundreds of Chimney Swifts funnel into an Eschweiler building each evening.

W Veteran's Memorial at City Hall 7725 W. North Avenue

Nestled away in the main level of Wauwatosa City Hall next to the conference rooms and the Library and only accessible through the upper level, this Veteran's memorial is a hidden gem which will be open to the public during Windows Into Wauwatosa. The City Hall building has gone through many changes through the years and its original location was easily accessible but now out of site as the building now stands.

X Wauwatosa Cemetery Chapel 2405 Wauwatosa Avenue –parking throughout cemetery Built in 1852 as the First Baptist Church it stood on the site of our present library. In 1888 it was converted into an armory for the Wauwatosa Light Guard, disbanded in 1914 and then moved into the cemetery. Plans for its renovation are in process.

Dating back to the 1890’s, the Clubhouse has housed churches and fraternal groups for the last 100 years. The Wauwatosa Lions Club originated in the year 1938. Twenty-one business and professional men formed the nucleus of the club. The club now has both men and women and focuses on eyesight, the community and youth development. Started in 1844 by Oliver Damon, and completed in 1847 by his son Lowell, this house is believed to be the oldest residence in Wauwatosa. A classic example of a colonial home, the Milwaukee County Historical Society has operated it as a museum for decades. Tour includes the the interior of the house and the gardens.

Dating back to the 1890’s, the Clubhouse has housed churches and fraternal groups for the last 100 years. The Wauwatosa Lions Club originated in the year 1938. Twenty-one business and professional men formed the nucleus of the club. The club now has both men and women and focuses on eyesight, the community and youth development. The clubhouse is open for rental.

The Monarch Trail is an approximately 11.5 acre preserve set aside to protect the existing roost areas used by the monarch butterfly on its 2,500 mile journey south in the fall. In addition to these roost areas, the adjacent lands provide host plants for the monarch population and nectar plants for this incredible migration. Since 2005, construction has disrupted much of this area and monarch numbers have continued to decline.

Restoration projects within the Monarch Preserve and on development areas will help improve the odds for monarchs on the County Grounds. In the meantime, unique birds can be heard and seen, many are rare in urban areas. The meadowlarks and bluebirds are nesting, warblers, orioles, wrens, tanagers and others can be seen here too. Hundreds of Chimney Swifts funnel into an Eschweiler building each evening.

Nestled away in the main level of Wauwatosa City Hall next to the conference rooms and the Library and only accessible through the upper level, this Veteran's Memorial is a hidden gem which will be open to the public during Windows Into Wauwatosa. The City Hall building has gone through many changes through the years and its original location was easily accessible but now out of site as the building now stands.

Special Announcement #2! It just keeps getting better! If you read our medical sites announcement, you might have wondered how you were going to travel around and park at the medical sites. Don't worry! The UW-M Foundation has generously donated the use of two UW-M Panther busses to shuttle you to these sites! Climb aboard, visit which sites you choose, and stay at each site as long as you choose. The shuttles are free and will run continuously throughout the day. Thank you, UW-M!

Children's is a national leader in the care of children, and our services extend far beyond the walls of our hospital. Tour one of the specialty areas in our clinics building, check out the Children's ambulance (which will be parked by the Flight for Life helicopter) and stop by the Kohl's Cares Grow Safe & Healthy Mobile Unit. It features an interactive digital kiosk that introduces kids to the Keep Spriggy Safe game and engages parents in injury prevention discussion with free safety materials.

Back for its 2nd year on the Windows tour, Hoyt Pool was Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened in 1939 the pool was closed in 2003 due to severe structural problems. Rebuilt through local fund-raising efforts, the pool re-opened in 2011, and was named TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park. Come see the pumps and filtration system in the pool house basement.

Now home to the County Parks Administrative offices, the corridors of this building that originally housed the Home for Dependent Children, are lined with dozens of historic photos. The spirit of Charles Whitnall, original Milwaukee Parks architect, is found in a display of his desk and typewriter that welcomes you into this grand building.

Back for its 2nd year on the Windows tour, this historic building was completed in 1918 by the Wauwatosa Masonic Lodge, where, at one time, there were 900 members. Sold to Milwaukee Irish Fest in 1998, and renovated with a Celtic theme. Visitors can view the entire building, including the John J. Ward Irish Music Archives.

Windows Into Wauwatosa Women's ClubBack for its 2nd year on the Windows tour, The Wauwatosa Woman's Club is a beautiful Georgian Colonial clubhouse that was dedicated in March of 1925. The club itself started in 1894 in the home of Mrs. Kellogg in 1894 and this year is celebrating its 120 years of "Supporting each other - the community and the future." In 1915 Mayor Emerson D. Hoyt offered the women a land grant to build a club house after the city alderman turned the women down. In 1998, the clubhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as well as becoming a Milwaukee County Landmark. A historic museum on the lower level contains documents and articles of local and historic interests as requested by Dr. Hoyt. The building is now handicapped accessible and air conditioned. The beautiful upper ballroom hosts many fundraisers that help to support the club and its philanthropic work.

What are those old red brick buildings you see along Hwy45? Here's your chance to get inside and hear the history of the Milwaukee County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy, built in 1912, and commonly referred to as the Eschweiler buildings. You'll be able to see the beautiful architecture on the first floor of the Administration building, which is surrounded by the Monarch Trail, in a park-like setting. Now owned by the UWM Real Estate Foundation, efforts are underway to generate funding to adaptively reuse these buildings.

Wauwatosa's first church was constructed in 1853 on a blackberry patch purchased from Charles Hart for $50.00, and has had additions in 1870, 1888 and 1921. "This beautiful building combines the early American heritage of Congregationalism with the contemporary needs of today's church community."

The Little Red Store is part of Wauwatosa’s earliest history as the oldest remaining post office in Milwaukee County. A highlight of the Windows Into Wauwatosa tour will include a trip to the basement to view the store’s original beams.

Built in 1852 as the First Baptist Church it stood on the site of our present library. In 1888 it was converted into an armory for the Wauwatosa Light Guard, disbanded in 1914 and then moved into the cemetery. Plans for its renovation are in process.

Walled up by a 1970s remodeling project the striking architectural detail and WPA-supported murals sat untouched behind plaster for decades. In 2002 a major restoration brought back the beauty.
